A Calling in Life

A Calling in Life

It does not take long to realize that dentistry is not only a passionate calling in the lives of Drs. Reema and Maher Arnouk of Glendora’s Foothill Family Dental Group. Dentistry is also a family affair that is grounded in a loving and enthusiastic desire to serve men and women of all ages, as well as children.

When Dr. Reema launched the Glendora practice in February 2013, Dr. Maher was serving in highly respected and demanding leadership position requiring his expertise in skilled dentistry, training, and quality control. In 1993, he began serving as an associate doctor with Western Dental Services, San Bernardino, (one of the largest offices in the company), and quickly assumed the responsibilities of managing doctor. Soon after, he became the clinical director in Northern CA, with oversight of 16 offices . He served in a similar regional capacity over the Southern California region, as well as with the Arnouk’s Redlands practice, Tricity Family Dental Care.

Long before the Arnouks married, they were attending the same school as first grade classmates, while grewing up in Syria. After high school, they went their separate ways to attend different dental schools, all the while staying in touch as friends. They then both finished dental school, reconnected and before long a loving relationship blossomed, followed by marriage, and the beginning of a family.

Dr. Reema still carries vivid memories of first encounter with dentistry. “As a youth, I spent my free time helping my mom’s dentist friend. I was always captivated by the grateful nature of patients who were helped and relieved of pain and discomfort.” In similar fashion, Dr. Maher remembers the early inspiration of being with a close family member who was highly esteemed in the community for his dedicated service and proficiency in the field of dentistry.

For a time, Drs. Maher and Reema, with their three daughters, lived near Reema’s family in Kansas. Their goal was always to return to Southern California, and when they did, they found their hearts drawn to the City of Glendora. While Dr. Maher provided territorial oversight for Western Dental’s clinical work in California and Arizona, Reema took the lead in establishing the family’s newest venture, which officially opened in the Foothill Medical Arts Building.

Shortly after the Arnouk’s office opened, their oldest daughter, Mariam, joined the team as the hygienist, a position she held until being accepted to dental school in Arizona, where she is completing her second year. It is an exciting development, too, as Dr. Reema explained: “Maher and I can’t wait for her to come back to serve as a dentist. The knowledge that she is gaining from her studies and clinical work at Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health is preparing her for a career in dentistry.” Not far behind is the Arnouk’s second daughter, Yara, who is majoring in Biochemistry at Azusa Pacific University and has already applied for dental school. The Arnouk’s youngest daughter, Maya, is a flourishing eighth grader at Foothill Christian School, Glendora.

Certainly the love of dentistry and joy of service has proven to be a life calling for Drs. Reema and Maher that is spilling over into the lives of two of their three daughters. As for Maya, time will tell!

Helping to end human trafficking

On July 4, 2016 630 runners dashed away from the starting line at Glendora’s Finkbiner park to run/walk in the Freedom 4/24 Run for Their Lives 5K. Foothill Family Dental Group was proud to be there participating as a Freedom Sponsor for this event that helps to raise funds and awareness to stop human trafficking.

We enjoyed a great day with our local community and the runners that turned out to support this important cause. Seeing the energy and enthusiasm of the volunteers and participants made us even more proud to be a part of a community that comes together to fight against injustice. We love our Glendora community and we embrace the opportunity to support organizations like Redeeming Love that are working to free women in our local area from sexual exploitation and trafficking.

Run 4 Their Lives 5K

Foothill Family Dental Group is proud to be partnering with Freedom 4/24 which exists to bring freedom and justice to victims and survivors of human trafficking. We are helping sponsor the 3rd annual Run 4 Their Lives 5K at Finkbiner Park here in Glendora on June 4. This walk/run will be raising awareness around the issue of human trafficking and raising money to fund a rehabilitation home for trafficking victims, opening in the San Gabriel Valley called Redeeming Love.

Redeeming Love is directly working with women who have been affected by human trafficking in Southern California. Many people are unaware that human trafficking even exists but at this point, conservative estimates indicate that there are actually 27 million slaves around the world and trafficking is occurring in locally here in Southern California. Foothill Christian School Field Trip

Dr. Arnouk recently hosted a field trip of Miss Burris’ students from Foothill Christian School for a tour of the office. The students had a fun, behind the scenes look at the entire office and learned about the technology that is used to examine their teeth. They went home with a bag of dental care goodies and some tips from Dr. Arnouk on how to keep their smiles healthy.

An Interview with Dr. Reema Arnouk

Posted by on Aug 1, 2013 in Blog | Comments Off on An Interview with Dr. Reema Arnouk

This is an excerpt from an interview with Dr. Reema Anouk that was originally posted on the Foothill Christian School blog at

Dr. Reema Arnouk, is one of the school’s most dedicated Moms.  Her warm, smiling personality reveals a love for people, and a joy that comes from serving others, which she does well through the practice of dentistry.

Located on the fourth floor of the Foothill Medical Arts Building on Grand Avenue, her practice–Foothill Family Dental Group– provides a wide range of skilled services, using state-of-the art equipment.  Dr. Arnouk is a current member of the National Society of Dental Practitioners (NSDP).

We recently spent time with Dr. Arnouk, who supports the school as a Corporate Sponsor, to learn more about her practice and her involvement in the Foothill Christian School community.

FCS: Dr. Arnouk, we’d enjoy knowing more about you, your family and your new practice. To begin, tell us how you selected Glendora to start your practice?

Dr. Arnouk: My husband and I were very diligent in our search of schools. After we did site visits and investigated 30 different schools, we came to Foothill. At the most rudimentary level, we wanted our daughters to be in Christian schools. My other daughter attends Western Christian and Maya, our 4th grader is enrolled here at the Baseline campus

FCS: What was it about this school that you found most appealing?

Dr. Arnouk: Foothill was our last school to visit, and I remember being here and seeing all of the cheerful faces. I especially enjoyed and appreciated the time spent with Mr. G. We had Maya with us during the tour and she had a wonderful conversation with him about the various subjects. Maya expressed a lot of excitement and said she wanted to come here. As for me, it feels very much like a family, like home.

FCS: And you also decided to start your practice here in Glendora, close to the school and our school families, is that right?

Dr. Arnouk: Yes. I really strive to be a friendly, quality-oriented family dentist. I enjoy working with people, especially children. I wanted my practice to be near the school. That was a compelling reason for the location; Maya had very strong feelings about this, too, and even wrote a letter to Jesus asking Him to help us start our practice in Glendora. I feel it was meant for us to be present here with our home, our school and our dental practice.

FCS: Tell us a little about your background and training in the field of dentistry.

Dr. Arnouk: I received my training at Loma Linda School of Dentistry, a well-respected institution that provides a thorough program of instruction. My husband, Maher, also attended there. He not only practices dentistry, but is also a regional instructor to dentists. We’ve been married for 23 years, and the field of dentistry is a shared family interest. In fact, my oldest daughter, will graduate from Loma Linda University next year. She wants to practice dental hygiene.

In a previous blog story, we mentioned that Dr. Arnouk’s practice is located on Grand Avenue in the Foothill Medical Arts Building, and that she is a current member of the National Society of Dental Practitioners.  As a Corporate Sponsor, she is very involved in school events, which has included giving talks about dental care and hygiene to Foothill’s students.  Dr. Arnouk has also supported the Charity Golf Classic, which raises support for the school’s Scholarship Fund.

Since the grand opening of Foothill Family Dental Group in April, a number of Foothill family members have had appointments with Dr. Arnouk, which is so encouraging:  “I am very excited about working with Foothill Christian School families,” she says.  “It is a joy to help both adults and children, and for that reason, I don’t specialize in one age group versus another.  Whether the patient is an adult or a child, I want to be friendly and welcoming.  I truly enjoy working with children, but every patient is special, and every individual deserves the absolute best service possible.”

Dr. Arnouk’s youngest daughter, Maya, is a little prayer warrior:  “When my husband and I were deciding where to locate the practice, Maya—who will be a 5th grader next year– wrote a letter to Jesus, asking Him to please locate our business here in Glendora in the Foothill Medical Arts Building.  I truly believe it was by God’s design that we should live in Glendora, be involved at Foothill Christian School, and practice dentistry here in this beautiful foothill community.”

Even at this early juncture, the word has been spreading quickly about Dr. Arnouk’s practice, especially from those who have used her services.  Coach Sarah Dykema is not alone in offering a rousing endorsement “My husband, Jeff, and I are incredibly impressed by not only the state-of-the-art equipment that is used, the professional and friendly staff, but especially the high personal touch that Dr. Arnouk seems to give every patient.  She’s not only like a member of the family, but she’s our personal dentist, and she really cares about us!”   Procedures offered include: Preventative dental care; canker sore treatment; cosmetic dentistry; orthodontics (Invisalign); crowns, bridges and dentures; fillings, root canals and extractions.

What Is Good Oral Hygiene?

Posted by on Jan 20, 2013 in Blog | 0 comments

What is Good Oral Hygiene?

Good oral hygiene results in a mouth that looks and smells healthy. This means:

  • Your teeth are clean and free of debris
  • Gums are pink and do not hurt or bleed when you brush or floss
  • Bad breath is not a constant problem

If your gums do hurt or bleed while brushing or flossing, or you are experiencing persistent bad breath, see your dentist. Any of these conditions may indicate a problem.

Your dentist or hygienist can help you learn good oral hygiene techniques and can help point out areas of your mouth that may require extra attention during brushing and flossing.

How is Good Oral Hygiene Practiced?

Maintaining good oral hygiene is one of the most important things you can do for your teeth and gums. Healthy teeth not only enable you to look and feel good, they make it possible to eat and speak properly. Good oral health is important to your overall well-being.

Daily preventive care, including proper brushing and flossing, will help stop problems before they develop and is much less painful, expensive, and worrisome than treating conditions that have been allowed to progress.

In between regular visits to the dentist, there are simple steps that each of us can take to greatly decrease the risk of developing tooth decay, gum disease and other dental problems. These include:

  • Brushing thoroughly twice a day and flossing daily
  • Eating a balanced diet and limiting snacks between meals
  • Using dental products that contain fluoride, including toothpaste
  • Rinsing with a fluoride mouthrinse if your dentist tells you to
  • Making sure that your children under 12 drink fluoridated water or take a fluoride supplement if they live in a non-fluoridated area.
